Peace and Sport is an international, neutral and independent organization based in Monaco, which promotes peace using the power of sport. Founded in 2007 by Modern Pentathlon Olympic Medallist and World Champion Joël Bouzou, Peace and Sport enjoys the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
More and more sport-based programs testify the power of the practice of the sport to spur individual and social development, by promoting its structuring values. The use of sport as a pedagogic tool has also motivated the international sports movement and stakeholders into tangible action. So far, Peace and Sport has implemented 11 field programs in 12 countries involving 25 international federations and 22 local NGOs.
In parallel, our success in the field has made political leaders and governments aware of how sport can be a genuine and effective mechanism for peace. Sport is now put at the heart of concerted, effective and relevant political action.
Over the last 10 years, the ability of sport to foster peace and development was recognized at the highest international level. The United Nations Member States have repeatedly demonstrated their commitment and support to the use of sport as a vehicle for human development and peace by adopting a series of resolutions and several key governance instrument, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
